And they’ve just made a move that could change the game: appointing Maria Oldham as their new Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Oldham steps into this role at a pivotal moment. Yellow Card is not just expanding its pan-African digital payment network; it’s also pushing into South East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, leveraging stablecoin technology to simplify cross-border transactions. With over 20 years of experience in global finance and technology, Oldham is no stranger to disruption. Her resume reads like a who’s who of fintech success stories. She’s held senior leadership roles at giants like PayPal, dLocal, and the Brazilian unicorn Loft. At dLocal, she served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Strategy, Corporate Development, and Finance, while at Loft, she was Vice President of Marketplace. She also spearheaded PayPal’s SME business in Latin America and played a key role in scaling iZettle Brazil, which PayPal later acquired for $2 billion. Her career began in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in London, giving her a deep understanding of both traditional and emerging financial systems.

In her new role, Oldham will take the reins of Yellow Card’s revenue and expansion efforts, overseeing Strategy, Operations, Partnerships, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success. She’ll report directly to Founder and CEO Chris Maurice, who’s clearly excited about what she brings to the table. “Maria has scaled some of the world’s most successful fintech companies and has unparalleled expertise in emerging markets,” Maurice says. “Her strategic vision and operational leadership will be crucial as we expand into new regions and bridge the gap between global and local financial ecosystems.”
Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and now based in London, Oldham holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from EAESP-FGV São Paulo and an MBA from London Business School. Her appointment underscores Yellow Card’s commitment to strengthening its leadership and accelerating its mission to modernize financial infrastructure in Africa and beyond.
