Yellow Card Appoints Maria Oldham as COO: Fintech Veteran Joins to Drive Global Expansion (2025)

Here’s a bold statement: The financial world is on the brink of a revolution, and stablecoins are at the heart of it. But here’s where it gets controversial—not everyone agrees on how this revolution will play out. Yellow Card, a pioneering stablecoin-based payment platform operating in 34 countries, is betting big on this future. And they’ve just made a move that could change the game: appointing Maria Oldham as their new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Oldham steps into this role at a pivotal moment. Yellow Card is not just expanding its pan-African digital payment network; it’s also pushing into South East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, leveraging stablecoin technology to simplify cross-border transactions. And this is the part most people miss—stablecoins aren’t just a tech trend; they’re a potential solution to long-standing challenges in global finance, like transparency and reliability.

With over 20 years of experience in global finance and technology, Oldham is no stranger to disruption. Her resume reads like a who’s who of fintech success stories. She’s held senior leadership roles at giants like PayPal, dLocal, and the Brazilian unicorn Loft. At dLocal, she served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Strategy, Corporate Development, and Finance, while at Loft, she was Vice President of Marketplace. She also spearheaded PayPal’s SME business in Latin America and played a key role in scaling iZettle Brazil, which PayPal later acquired for $2 billion. Her career began in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in London, giving her a deep understanding of both traditional and emerging financial systems.

“The payments industry has seen wave after wave of disruption over the past two decades,” Oldham reflects. “Stablecoins are the next big wave. Yellow Card’s compliance-first approach makes cross-border payments seamless, transparent, and trustworthy. I’m thrilled to join Chris and the team to drive global growth and build the financial infrastructure of tomorrow.”

In her new role, Oldham will take the reins of Yellow Card’s revenue and expansion efforts, overseeing Strategy, Operations, Partnerships, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success. She’ll report directly to Founder and CEO Chris Maurice, who’s clearly excited about what she brings to the table. “Maria has scaled some of the world’s most successful fintech companies and has unparalleled expertise in emerging markets,” Maurice says. “Her strategic vision and operational leadership will be crucial as we expand into new regions and bridge the gap between global and local financial ecosystems.”

Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and now based in London, Oldham holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from EAESP-FGV São Paulo and an MBA from London Business School. Her appointment underscores Yellow Card’s commitment to strengthening its leadership and accelerating its mission to modernize financial infrastructure in Africa and beyond.

But here’s the question that sparks debate: Can stablecoins truly revolutionize global finance, or are they just another tech fad? And is Yellow Card’s compliance-first approach enough to navigate the regulatory challenges ahead? Let’s discuss—what’s your take? Do you think stablecoins are the future, or is there a catch we’re missing? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
